What was Dalot’s celebration about?

Manchester United victory over Sheriff Tiraspol 3-0 on Thursday night, with Diogo Dalot opening the scoring with his second-ever goal for the club.

The  Portuguese right-back was on the end of Christian Eriksen’s corner to head home just before the break, before further goals in the second half by substitute Marcus Rashford and Cristiano Ronaldo.

Since joining the Reds in 2018, it is the second time he has found the net in a competitive fixture.

Dalot scored his first United goal against Tranmere Rovers back in a January 2020 FA Cup tie that the Reds won 6-0.

He also scored  twice for AC Milan during his loan spell there, and is in flying form for his country with two goals in a single game back in September, the win over Czech Republic.

And if you’re wondering about his celebration, Dalot revealed the reasoning behind it to United Review, the official matchday programme, last year.

“Ah yes ‘check the pulse’!” he said in 2021.

“It’s a funny thing. I had a couple of friends in the national team and we were playing Uno and, when we are putting down the +4 cards, everybody was like this [points to neck] because we didn’t have any more +4 cards.

“It’s an original thing, it’s not something I’ve seen before and it’s a good one! [Laughs]

“I will definitely do it for my next goal!“
