Man apprehended for kidnapping journalist in Ogun state

A 41-year-old man identified as Temidayo Oladimeji has been apprehended  by the Nigerian police for kidnapping a journalist in Ogun State.

The police had on March 24 arrested Oladimeji as one of those who abducted the journalist, Olusegun Oduneye, at Mobalufon area of Ijebu-Ode on March 9, 2023.

The Ogun State police spokesman, Abimbola Oyeyemi said the suspect was arrested following the “technical and intelligence-based investigation” embarked upon by the SP Taiwo Opadiran-led anti-kidnapping team, which led them to the hideout where the suspect had been hibernating.

Oyeyemi said the suspect, Oladimeji was the one detailed to guard the victim in the bush while two others were waiting for ransom from Oduneye’s family and friends.

He added that Oladimeji abandoned the victim and fled when he discovered that his other colleagues had been injured during a gun duel with the police.

Luck, however, ran out on him when he was traced to his hideout in Ijebu-ode where he was apprehended,” Oyeyemi explained, saying a locally-made pistol and a live cartridge were recovered from the suspect.

Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police, Frank Mba, had directed the team to intensify efforts towards arresting other members of the gang.
