Football legend Jamie Carragher, has blasted the ridiculous decision of Arsenal midfielder Granit Xhaka to hit out at Reds defender Trent Alexander-Arnold when the Gunners were 2-0 up at Anfield during both team’s Premier League tie on Sunday.
Xhaka did not react kindly to a challenge on the left-hand side of the Anfield pitch and chose to lash out at Alexander-Arnold.
Alexander-Arnold, seemingly playing in midfield instead of a traditional defensive role, went head-to-head with Xhaka.
Arsenal was leading the match 2-0 at the time, thanks to goals from Gabriel Martinelli and Gabriel Jesus.
Manchester United legend Gary Neville who was on Sky Sports match commentary said he was confused as to why Xhaka chose to lash out in an intense moment.
Neville said: “He can’t get involved. He has been so good for Arsenal this season. That is exactly what Liverpool would want.”
Carragher then responded, saying: “What is he thinking? 2-0 up away at Anfield, he just throws his arm into Trent. Just ridiculous.
“The crowd gets up, the ball’s already gone. It is 2-0, we are almost at half-time.”
